Clara Bagenal George crowned CIBSE Building Performance Engineer of the Year

We are delighted and very proud to announce, Senior Engineer, Clara Bagenal George was crowned CIBSE Building Performance Engineer of the Year at last night’s 2019 CIBSE Building Performance Awards, hosted at London’s Grosvenor hotel.

New for 2019 and the only individual award of the evening, the Engineer of the Year category recognises and rewards the important work done by practicing building services engineers and their contribution to the performance of the built environment – celebrating individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to engineering. “I am completely over the moon” says Clara. “I have always been passionate about sustainability and reducing our climate change impact, being able to work for a company that supports this mission is fantastic. The work with LETI would not have begun without the huge support from Elementa, and it wouldn’t have been so successful without the enthusiasm and dedication of time by a lot of professionals in the industry, and for that I am extremely thankful. To be recognised by an institution such as CIBSE is a great honour and I hope that this award provides a platform for LETI so that we can have more impact.”

Clara, who joined Elementa as just a Graduate Engineer has grown and developed into one of Elementa’s and the wider industry’s rising stars. Her above and beyond attitude and true passion for sustainability makes her a stand out engineer, establishing herself as both a role model and knowledgeable influencer within the construction industry.

In 2017, she founded the London Energy Transformation Initiative (LETI), finding practical and achievable solutions to progress London’s new buildings to zero carbon emissions by bringing together over 250 built environment professionals. In July 2017 she was also appointed as one of only 50 professionals to sit as London Mayor Sadiq Khan’s Design Advocates for Good Growth, as well as her direct work with the GLA (Greater London Authority) to help influence and shape policy in the capital. Her impressive resume of work also positions Clara as a regular key-note speaker at industry events with her work regularly published in industry magazines such as CIBSE Journal, MBS, Building Magazine and Architect’s Journal.

Doug Kerr, Elementa’s Managing Director comments, “We could not be prouder of Clara, nor could I think of anyone more deserving of this award. Her work both within and outside the company has had an incredible impact on the industry, promoting both women and young people within construction. All this alongside her unquestionable passion and drive for sustainability makes Clara an absolute credit to both herself and Elementa. Congratulations and well deserved”.
