Lions Park Library & Community Center

The City of Costa Mesa undertook a major upgrade and retrofit of the existing library and park located in the Westside neighborhood near Newport Beach. A new 22,000 ft² library was built on the grounds which also include a City-owned park. The brand new library is complete, and the existing 7,892 ft² library has been renovated to become a community center.

The library and community center buildings are targeting LEED Gold and LEED Silver, respectively. One of the many key features includes the use of underfloor air distribution (UFAD) which will provide advantages such as layout flexibility, improved thermal comfort and ventilation efficiency, reduced energy use and life-cycle costs.

The new library and community center provide the community of 55,000 residents with modern programming and space, which the former library was unable to do adequately due to its small size. The new library includes space for a larger book collection, dedicated space for kids and teens, and modern technologies. The park has been expanded from 2.8 acres to 3.8 acres. This upgraded complex enhances the downtown area for the residents of Costa Mesa and promotes the growth of Costa Mesa as a whole.
