171 Collins Street | BHP Headquarters
The new tower at 171 Collins Street rises behind the elegant, heritage-listed Mayfair Building. The project includes 33,500m2 of Net Lettable Area (NLA), including 17 floors of premium, high-end commercial space and a ground floor lobby that runs from Collins Street through to Flinders Lane. It also includes 1,687m2 of lettable boutique office suites in the adjoining Mayfair Building.
When the project completed in 2013, it achieved a 6-Star Green Star, Office As-Built (v2) rating, and a 6-Star NABERS Energy Rating, making it Victoria’s first 6-Star Green Star Rated premium office building.
Integral Group continued to work closely with the Building owners, Cbus and Charter Hall, and tenant BHP to monitor, maintain and continually exceed the sustainability targets.
In 2019, it became the first office tower in Australia to achieve a 6-Star NABERS Waste rating, and it has since maintained at least a 75 percent recycling rate. In 2021, 171 Collins Street was the first Australian building to achieve a 6-Star NABERS rating in Energy, Indoor Environment, and Waste.
I had the fortune to visit 171 Collins in 2019, where I witnessed firsthand all the work the team was doing to simultaneously reach three different 6-Star NABERS ratings.
