Portway, Calverton & Upton Cross Primary Schools
Elementa were appointed by Morgan Sindall on their IESE framework to deliver a 1 form entry expansion to Portway, Calverton and Upton Cross Primary Schools. Portway School and Calverton School were undertaken by one architect using Autodesk REVIT. Elementa also used REVIT to detail these projects, which allowed a more efficient team integrated and coordinated approach. Upton Cross School was drawn by the architect in AECOsim software which was then exported to REVIT via an IFC format. This again promoted close coordination.
Elementa provided full mechanical, electrical and public health design services as well as energy and sustainability strategies. All schools are naturally ventilated and were modelled in Sefaira to optimise the form and fabric prior to producing a more detailed Stage D modelling using IES VE. This allowed a far greater flexibility in the design process as we covered far more options and far more efficiently in Sefaira before progressing to more complex dynamic thermal modelling. Each site will achieve 25% carbon emission reduction over Part L, which was attained by using a fabric first approach and the addition of renewable energy produced by photovoltaic systems and also a small contribution of solar thermal serving domestic hot water.
