Debbie Halifax: Elementa’s Health and wellbeing benefits
Elementa is a modern, forward thinking, and inclusive company. Health & Wellbeing is an essential focus within our workplace and plays a crucial role in our culture. Covid-19 was a huge turning point on the business and shifted our focus to emotional wellbeing of our people . The built environment industry is fast paced and can involve long hours of work due to the nature of projects.
Employee Benefits are based upon personal choice and employees’ lifestyles. That is why we offer a wide range of benefits to all employees to support a healthier lifestyle. All company health and wellbeing benefits are introduced during new employee onboarding inclusive regardless of race, gender, or religion. We also host regular benefits updates to all staff as part of our monthly all hands meetings.
Health
To help our employees prioritise their health, we have introduced a wellness allowance, which allows employees to choose a health & wellbeing related activity or subscription of their choice.
Physical Wellbeing
We host activity based bi-monthly office socials and collaboration events that with fun physical games or sessions such as shuffleboard, football and crazy golf that promote employee connection and team ethos. In addition, we have popular team sports and social clubs including monthly Pilates classes on Friday afternoons.
Mental Wellbeing
We support employees with flexi working hours, which were in place before the pandemic and have since developed a companywide hybrid working model. The importance is the empowerment to give our people the choice to work in a structure that maximises work/life balance. We encourage employees with compressed hours and to leave early on a Friday additionally to avoid booking meetings that day too. In addition to our hybrid working, we offer employees the option to work outside of the UK and in their home country, when holidaying to visit family and friends. We have found this particularly popular post pandemic where our younger staff have been away from the family home for some time.
Aside from endorsing a great balance of work/life to improve mental wellbeing, we also sponsor two mental health apps called Calm, which supports healthy sleep and meditation app, Thrive. Our people can utilise these platforms at any time with complete confidentiality.
Mental Health
As an inclusive and collaborative culture. we host multiple employee led forums, that are driven by our people. These include ‘Healthy Heads’ committee and our ‘Wellbeing Council’ where our global staff come together in an informal online setting for, judgement free topic-based meetings to share resources and offer support to other employees. These forums create comfortable environments for employees to share experiences.
We have partnered with Mates in Mind a mental health support charity which are UK and globally based. They have helped Elementa create a Mental Health Policy, which provides a framework to improve mental wellbeing at work. We have implemented this into our offices, introducing five Mental Health Responders who are trained to help our People team signpost employees to suitable support.
To support our people further in mental wellbeing, we have held trained sessions with our line managers who have undertaken ‘Mange the conversation’ training as well as employees completing ‘Start the Conversation’ training in the desire to start a process of prevention rather than cure. This has also included the identification of mentors. Our internal focus on our people has also led to additional training in soft skills for subjects like, time management and building resilience to help support employees with work pressures.
Elementa is a people focused business that cares and is committed to the development and nurturing of our people. We have a good retention figure of our staff which is testament to how our people feel working at Elementa and we are proud to continue our responsibility to them as we continue to grow.
