Design Tech High School, Pastoria, & Intuit Receive 2017 Silicon Valley Structures Awards
Silicon Valley Business Journal has awarded three Integral Group projects with 2017 Silicon Valley Structures Awards in the following categories:
- Educational Project: Design Tech High School, Redwood City
- Office Project: Intuit, Mountain View
- Reuse/Rehab Project: 380 North Pastoria, Sunnyvale
- People’s Choice: Design Tech High School, Redwood City
Design Tech High School | DES Architects | Educational & People’s Choice
Design Tech High School will be the world’s first school located on a tech campus, providing interdisciplinary learning spaces built-to-fit the school’s personalized and problem-based approach. The two-story building is designed to connect both the bay-side site and the Oracle campus. Spaces are designed to be flexible and high-use in order to meet the significant programmatic needs. Designed for learning to take place everywhere, d.tech’s new school will help maximize each student’s experience and prepare them for success in college and beyond.
Integral Group worked closely with the DES Architects team to ensure that the building met all safety and comfort requirements while being highly sustainable and net zero energy consuming. The HVAC and lighting systems were designed to use significantly less energy than standard Title 24 compliant buildings, including a mechanical system that will provide excellent indoor air quality and exceeds ASHRAE Standard 62 ventilation requirements. The plumbing design reduces water use and maximizes the use of reclaimed water.
Intuit | WRNS Studio + Clive Wilkinson | Office
These two new four-story buildings expand the headquarters of a major technology company in the North Bayshore area of Mountain View. The software company solicited designs that bolster their strong sense of community by integrating the new buildings with the existing facilities to create a cohesive campus environment.
Integral Group worked closely with the architects to design healthy, beautiful, and energy-efficient buildings that support the collaborative spirit of the campus. The new buildings include open-office layouts and green roofs. They were designed in accordance with the North Bayshore Precise Plan—a document establishing development standards and architectural design guidelines in an effort to create sustainable development and to protect native habitats in the North Bayshore area.
380 North Pastoria | WRNS Studio | Reuse/Rehab
Building on the success of the Zero Net Energy retrofits at 435 Indio, 415 Mathilda and 117 Easy Street, Sharp Development and Hillhouse Construction teamed up again with Integral Group to produce a fourth ZNE Class A office space from a former uninspiring building.
Integral Group provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing design services as well as lighting and daylighting for the transformation of this 42,000 square foot space. The LED lighting is powered through low-voltage Ethernet cables and IT switches (known as Power-over-Ethernet, or PoE) rather than traditional electrical wires, and are programmed to change hue based on natural light sources in order to sync with human circadian rhythms. The PoE infrastructure alsos power the windows, ceiling fans, skylihghts and security systems, and data transmitted through the same cable allows occupants to digitally manage and optimize the building systems. Lighting, temperature and air quality can be managed and customized down to the specific workspace to reflect personal user preferences.
