Dr Dorte Rich Joergensen joins the judging panel at this year’s AJ Architecture Awards
Dr Dorte Rich Joergensen has been unveiled as a judge to this year’s AJ Architecture Awards for the masterplanning category. Celebrating and rewarding design excellence in UK architecture, the awards highlight the very best projects across 17 categories from masterplan, housing, health, and wellbeing to workplace and cultural.
In addition to stand-out design, judges had to consider how each project has met or exceeded its brief, how it has promoted client or community engagement and how it has excelled in the use of space or sense of place. Judges also analysed what sustainability measures have been put in place, an area of expertise for Dr Dorte who has been a sustainability leader on some of the globe’s leading projects including award-winning projects Cambridge Children Hospital, London 2012 Olympics, and Chiswick Park.
Dr Dorte, alongside the other judges, visited every shortlisted scheme over the summer which were:
- Paradise Masterplan Phase 1 by Glenn Howells Architects/MEPC
- The Design District by HNNA
- Barking Riverside masterplan by Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands
- East Village masterplan by Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands
Dr Dorte stated “I was inspired by all of the schemes that are shortlisted. Each of the masterplans stood out in diverse ways showing that they had been meticulously thought out with highly skilled teams who came across with passion for delivering excellence. I was looking at judging the schemes that were going beyond the norm for sustainability credentials. This includes the challenge of addressing the number of complexities in delivering the scheme we saw and the positive impact I witnessed the masterplans have on the local community and its multiple stakeholders.”
The winners will be announced at a gala event at the Hilton Metropole, London, on 23 November. Find more details and book here.
