The London Energy Transformation Initiative (LETI) Influences the new London Plan

Yesterday the draft London plan was released for public consultation. Following the continued campaign, ‘Getting to Zero’, spearheaded by Elementa’s Clara Bagenal George, we are delighted to say that many of the recommendations from LETI have been incorporated into the new London plan. Energy strategies for new developments will now have to include proposals that show how the development will achieve zero-carbon on-site emissions by 2050, how peak energy demand is minimised and how annual energy use will be disclosed.

The next steps for LETI include working with the GLA to create an alternative compliance pathway that moves away from a percentage betterment on Building Regulations, instead uses an absolute metric (EUI) and a fabric energy efficient metric.

LETI is a network of over 200 built environment professionals that are working together to put London on the path to a zero carbon future by making proposals for energy policy. Elementa Consulting have initiated and coordinated LETI as they were frustrated by that the current energy policy in London wasn’t driving design solutions that encouraged long term carbon emissions reduction.
