Elementa Presenting at Futurebuild 2019

Elementa are committed to creating sustainable environments for our future generations and with current reports suggesting the time to react to climate change is running out, we feel this year’s theme at the Futurebuild conference is unquestionably appropriate. Elementa are delighted to be contributing to this year’s programme and theme “Time for Action” which will focus on how the construction industry can influence the resilience, sustainability and quality of homes, buildings, infrastructure and cities to ensure the world has a sustainable future.

Elementa will be presenting in two of the seminar streams within the conference, ‘Buildings’ and ‘Energy’ to which we are also official supporters of the Energy Hub.

Our primary engagement on the 5th March is within the Energy Hub which highlights the latest research and best practice with exhibitors demonstrating the latest technologies including new advances in district energy and heating. Our contribution within this stream is part of the “Zero carbon cities” session which includes a panel of experts debating the reality of zero carbon buildings, how cities can transition to low carbon and how the circular economy will lead to a truly sustainable world. Suitably chairing this discussion is Elementa’s Dr. Rick Wheal, with specialisms in renewable energy, passive design and sustainable development, he will be directing the conversation to answer how people, corporations, buildings and cities can decrease their carbon.

Clara Bagenal George will be sitting on the panel to discuss how LETI are working towards a zero carbon London – an initiative Clara initiated in 2017 and within its short life has successfully influenced policy within the London Plan and has grown to over 250 cross-sector collaborators working together to plan for further future positive change. Our subsequent involvement taking place on the 7th March is within The Building Hub which focuses on the latest thinking and initiatives in building quality and performance as well as occupier comfort. It will explore new tools, technologies and delivery approaches to improve both new and existing buildings. To this end, Elementa are participating in the “What can international standards teach us?” session which will draw on approaches taken from international standards, such as RELI, SITEs, Ecodistricts, EDGE, Powerhouse and, above all, the Living Building Challenge. Chaired by Associate Principal, Nathan Millar, the panel also includes Elementa Sustainability engineers Louise Hamot and Alkyoni Papasifaki who as both Living Building Ambassadors will draw from their extensive experience within the Living Building Challenge relating its potential benefits and relevance to the UK. Senior Engineer, Clara Bagenal George will also be speaking during the Knowledge Hub session, this time focusing on ‘Whole-life impact of heat pumps and refrigerants’.
