Kimpton Fitzroy Wins the Hotels and Hospitality Category in the 2019 NLA Awards.
In their own words, “The New London Awards selection reflects not just quality of design: projects are selected because they also deliver something positive for their local area or for London.”
At Elementa we are already proud to have been part of the design team that restored The Kimpton Fitzroy in London, and further delighted to announce the hotel’s triumph at This week’s NLA New London Awards .
Yesterday 700 of the capital’s leading decision-makers and professionals across development, design, planning and construction came together to hear the winners of the prestigious New London Awards 2019 at The Guildhall in the City of London. Taking home the top prize within the Hotel’s and Hospitality category, The Kimpton Fitzroy surpassed the other 9 strong competitors to win this prestigious award.
As one of London’s original “Grande Dame” hotels, The Kimpton (originally the Russell Hotel) opened in 1900 boasting many examples of high class design, including a restaurant identical to the dining room on the Titanic. During the renovation, the discovery of hidden marble mosaics and boarded up bathrooms presented opportunities for preservation and restoration of important historical heritage.
The project not only safeguarded the hotel’s architectural heritage, also noted by the NLA London awards as shortlisted for the Conservation and Retrofit category, but also significantly lowered its ongoing environmental footprint with new technology focused on sustainability and performance.
Over a thousand architects, designers, builders, carpenters and craftspeople came together to breathe life back into this London landmark over two years. To win this award is a humbling recognition of the entire team’s dedication and hard work.
