Livermore Civic Center Council Chambers and Meeting Hall

The city of Livermore has commissioned a new council chambers and meeting hall for its Civic Center complex. A courtyard, including public gardens and a plaza, will link the new building to the existing Civic Center’s main axis.

Integral Group is providing full mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design services for this project. The building will use natural ventilation when outside temperatures permit, and it will have a cool tower to incorporate passive cooling strategies. The cool tower “captures” wind for ventilation and uses a spray ring to provide evaporative cooling by misting the air. The resulting cool, dense air naturally descends into the lobby spaces and adjacent meeting rooms to condition the building’s interior. Nighttime flushes can also be executed by the cool tower by opening its damper to cool the building mass overnight. The new building will also have a variable refrigerant flow (VRF) system, which quietly heats and cools the building when natural ventilation is not viable.
