Sherwood Hill SEN School
To meet the rising demand in the London Borough of Sutton, a new build 72 place SEN school for secondary age pupils with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) is being provided on the site of an old High School. The scheme consists of 12 classrooms, each with its own associated ‘safe space’, specialist treatment rooms, soft play, hydrotherapy pool, double height hall and all associated functions of a new SEN school.
A very sustainable scheme has been developed with a highly efficient envelope form and fabric underpinning the Building Services strategy. Elementa have undertaken extensive thermal modelling to optimise the energy performance and prove the building’s natural ventilation strategy achieved to all classrooms. The design includes an extensive PV array to exceed the current London Plan Renewables requirements for Planning. Safety and security is a paramount concern and we have been heavily involved in developing a cost efficient yet effective access control, staff communication and CCTV solution for the scheme. Elementa have provided full design of Building Services and Sustainability consulting including BREEAM consulting from inception to completion.
